The United States Constitution




“We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.” 

These words, written 227 years ago, are the Preamble to our Constitution. This is Constitution Week, September 17 – 23, celebrating the signing of this important document. Celebrating its 227th birthday, the U.S. Constitution is the oldest constitution still in active use in the world today and is the basic document of our republic, which protects the individual liberties of all citizens through written law.
